William Posey, Worshipful Master
William Posey serves as Worshipful Master of Sunrise Daylight Lodge No. 1433. The Worshipful Master is the senior officer of a Masonic lodge and presides from the East.
He chairs lodge business, leads meetings, and presides over ritual and ceremonies while helping guide the lodge’s work, fellowship, and service.
The Role of the Worshipful Master
The office of Worshipful Master is the highest honor to which a lodge may appoint one of its members. The position is filled annually by election, and in most jurisdictions a brother must first have served as an installed Warden.
The Master is expected to lead by example, apply the lodge’s rules fairly, support the officers and members, and represent the principles of Freemasonry in his conduct.
Why the Title “Worshipful” Is Used
The honorific “Worshipful” does not mean that the Master is worshiped. It reflects the word’s older meaning—worthy of respect—and recognizes the duty of the Master to serve as an example of how a Mason should act toward others.
